Mid-century Modern interior design
Walnut credenzas, tapered legs, and Eames silhouettes - the optimistic American style that aged into a classic. Mid-century modern emerged in the post-war American optimism of the 1940s through 1960s. It married the clean lines of European modernism with the warmth of natural wood and a sense of organic curve. Iconic pieces from Eames, Saarinen, and Wegner remain in production today. Rooted in Bauhaus principles brought to America by emigré designers, refined through Scandinavian craft, and popularized by the suburban housing boom and shows like Mad Men. It never really went away.
