Transitional interior design
The middle path between traditional and modern - classic silhouettes simplified, neutral palettes warmed by texture. Transitional design is the most-requested style in real-world projects because it ages better than either pure traditional or strict modern. It keeps the comfortable proportions of classic furniture while removing carved ornament, and it leans on a calm neutral palette punctuated by texture rather than pattern. Codified in the 1990s as American designers searched for an alternative to the heaviness of 80s traditional and the coldness of 90s minimalism. It has remained the dominant style for resale-friendly homes and high-end residential projects ever since.
